About The Position

The Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Professor of Clinical. This position reports directly to the Division Chief within the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon will provide patient care through clinical evaluations and treatments to address medical needs. Additionally, the surgeon will educate patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Promote the mission of UHealth in achieving its role in providing medical education, research, and quality patient care. Participate in international, national, regional and local activities within the health care industry, which impact the future role of the Divisional Surgical Areas funding environment Participate in Oral Surgery Service and residency training Serve in key activities for the Department of Surgery as agreed upon with the Division Chief This individual is responsible for clinical care in all aspects of oral maxillofacial surgery as well as working collaboratively with the other physicians in the division Will be involved in resident supervision both at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System and the Miami Veteran’s Administration Hospital. In addition, this position will require teaching of students in both junior and senior elective programs as sponsored by this Division within the students’ surgical experience This individual will also be responsible for pursuing protocols to fund experiments under their supervision Documents all services in patient medical records Comply to Departmental Policy & Procedures & Hospital Bylaws Exercises final medical judgment in all issues of healthcare. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates will have an excellent academic record Recognized teaching skills and expertise in residency, fellowship and medical student training is required Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical/dental principles, procedures, and techniques Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper bedside manner Performs in tactful and professional manner. Education Requirements: The Position requires a DDS or DMD degree Eligible candidates must have completed a CODA-accredited advanced education program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and be board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). Candidates for this position must have completed a Fellowship in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery. Candidates must also possess either a Florida Medical or Dental License and a DEA certificate.
