About The Position

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Professional Responsibilities Clinical Care Provide inpatient general cardiology services, including consultation and management of hospitalized patients with cardiovascular conditions. Interpret and perform transthoracic echocardiograms and stress echocardiography as credentialed. Provide outpatient care for a wide range of cardiovascular diseases in faculty clinics, with emphasis on prevention, chronic disease management, and longitudinal follow-up. Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with timely responsiveness to referring providers. Collaborate with subspecialists in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, and vascular medicine to ensure comprehensive care. Participate in outreach activities and satellite clinics as assigned to expand access to cardiovascular services across UTMB campuses. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities Teach and mentor cardiovascular medicine fellows, residents, and medical students in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Participate in didactic teaching, case conferences, journal clubs, and curriculum development for general cardiology education. Supervise trainee documentation and ensure compliance with institutional standards. Research & Scholarly Activity Contribute to clinical or outcomes-based research in general cardiology and non-invasive imaging. Participate in departmental quality and performance improvement initiatives. Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional meetings. Administrative Duties Document patient encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate actively in departmental and institutional meetings. Collaborate with clinic managers and inpatient teams to ensure smooth operations, patient access, and high-quality care delivery. Assist in the development of best practices and clinical protocols for inpatient and outpatient cardiology. Quality, Safety, & Compliance Monitor patient outcomes and contribute to departmental quality improvement programs. Ensure compliance with all institutional, state, and federal regulations. Maintain appropriate credentialing, licensure, and CME requirements. Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews and peer-review processes. Professional Development & Community Engagement Attend and participate in regional and national meetings in cardiovascular medicine. Engage with referring providers, community physicians, and healthcare organizations to foster strong relationships. Represent UTMB in professional societies and outreach initiatives.

Requirements

  • MD degree (or equivalent).
  • Board certified or eligible in ABIM Cardiovascular Diseases.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a full medical license in the State of Texas.
