About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking a qualified candidate for a faculty position in the Department of Pathology. The role involves providing patient care services at various facilities including the University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center. The position requires a strong background in Surgical Pathology and the ability to work independently while making reliable recommendations and diagnoses. The candidate will also participate in educational activities for residents, fellows, and medical students, as well as engage in collaborative research opportunities.

Requirements

  • Must be an M.D or D.O. who is Board Certified or Board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
  • Strong general knowledge in Surgical Pathology and Pathology Subspecialties.
  • Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional workforce.
  • Experience with quality improvement methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
  • Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Board certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care services for patients at UMH, JMH, and SCCC.
  • Perform gross descriptions, take photographs of specimens, and conduct tissue sampling.
  • Conduct microscopic examinations of surgical specimens and report findings.
  • Verify coding diagnosis in the computer in a timely manner.
  • Perform Frozen Section diagnoses and report autopsies in a timely manner.
  • Participate in 24-hour call coverage according to assigned division.
  • Engage in educational activities for pathology residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Participate in collaborative research opportunities and seek funding from grants.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services to uphold JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
