About The Position

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania are seeking candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the non-tenure academic clinician track. This role is designed for individuals who possess an M.D. or equivalent degree, with board-certification or eligibility in Child Neurology being a prerequisite. The position is primarily focused on clinical responsibilities, which include both inpatient service and outpatient clinic duties. The successful candidate will be involved in teaching responsibilities that encompass bedside teaching and oversight of medical students, residents, and fellows in a clinical setting, as well as opportunities for formal lectures within the department. This recruitment is part of the expansion of the new Neuroscience Center, which aims to enhance the delivery of pediatric neurological care. The position offers a unique blend of outpatient clinic work at various CHOP satellite locations and inpatient service at the CHOP Philadelphia Campus, including the Middleman Family Pavilion at the CHOP King of Prussia Campus. The CHOP Neurology satellite outpatient clinics are strategically located across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, providing a wide reach for patient care. We are particularly interested in child neurologists with diverse clinical skills who are eager to engage in a dynamic practice that combines clinical excellence with academic and teaching opportunities. Candidates with expertise in specific areas such as epilepsy/clinical neurophysiology, headache management, neonatal neurology, critical care neurology, and inpatient neurology are especially encouraged to apply. The program boasts a robust team of 63 Child Neurology attending physicians and scientists, and it is supported by an ACGME-accredited 5-year child neurology residency program that matches 7 residents annually. The Neuroscience Center integrates specialists in Child Neurology and Neurosurgery, facilitating precise diagnoses and individualized clinical care, alongside cutting-edge surgical treatments aimed at achieving groundbreaking discoveries. The CHOP Philadelphia Campus features a dedicated 24-bed inpatient Neuroscience Unit, staffed by an interdisciplinary team with specialized training in pediatric neuroscience. This state-of-the-art unit includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, designed to cater to the unique medical and surgical needs of infants, children, and young adults with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Additionally, the campus is equipped with large neonatal, pediatric, and cardiac intensive care units, as well as extensive emergency department and ward neurology consultation services. The position includes a shared call rotation of 5-6 weeks/weekends per year, providing a balanced work-life dynamic.
