About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is experiencing a period of expansion and is seeking exceptional candidates to join the faculty.   The University of Miami is considered among the top tier institutions of higher education in the U.S. for its academic excellence, superior medical care, and cutting-edge research . Physician candidate should feel comfortable p roviding anesthesia for a ll types of routine adult and obstetrics surgery, including outpatient ear, nose, and throat procedures; urological surgeries, and general surgery cases . A pplicant must also be able to provide anesthesia for a variety of obstetrical cases, including complex cases such as acretas . Experience in fetal surgeries is also desirable. Limited skills in regional , aside from epidurals, and the ability to anesthetize older children is helpful. Physician candidate will be able to provide anesthesia management for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including MRI, CT scanning, invasive radiology, ABR testing, gastrointestinal procedures, and minor hematology/oncology procedures. Physician candidate should be able to p erform pre-admission anesthetic evaluation and testing for obstetrics patients with complicated medical problems or who are undergoing complex surgery . Physician candidate should be able to provide acute post-operative pain management, including patient-controlled analgesia, epidural and caudal anesthesia. Physician candidate should be able to work as part of the critical care medicine team to provide intensive care services for obstetrics patients with serious medical illness or recovering from major surgery. Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents, CRNAs, and SRNAs . Applicants should also feel comfortable performing cases on their own , if . Applicants should be able to participate in the academic activities of the department , including teaching and mentoring trainees , and participating in departmental conference s and faculty meetings. Call is expected to be 3-4 overnight calls per month ( s ome calls may be from home). There may also be a need for evening and weekend calls . Applicant should expect to work/take call at least one weekend per month. The effort distribution may change based on department needs, candidate’s interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding. Compensation is dependent on years of experience and determination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.

Requirements

  • Candidates for this position should have completed a US approved residency in Anesthesiology or have obtained equivalent training and certification
  • Completion of ABMS accredited Fellowship in Obstetrics Anesthesiology
  • Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Obstetrics Anesthesiology is for this position. (Equivalence to board certification can be determined on a case-by-case basis)
  • Eligible for unrestricted Florida Medical License

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in fetal surgeries is also desirable
  • Limited skills in regional, aside from epidurals, and the ability to anesthetize older children is helpful
