About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track 9-month faculty position. Primary duties will include teaching courses (at a reduced teaching load); being part of the inaugural faculty to launch of the new Civil Engineering program focusing on Water Resources and Wastewater Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Green Building Engineering with emphasis on LEED and sustainable design; assisting in the establishment and development of laboratory facilities; collaborating with faculty and staff; mentoring students as well as helping to guide their research projects. Duties also include developing externally funded research, enhancing the School’s research profile, fostering collaborations with industry, government, and interdisciplinary teams to advance lab and program initiatives; and providing service to the School, college, and university. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and student mentorship.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to supporting students.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Water Resources and Wastewater Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Green Building Engineering with LEED/sustainable design.
  • Ability to contribute to laboratory establishment and development.
  • Manage hands-on experimental programs.
  • Engage with faculty, students, and external stakeholders.
