About The Position

Metro State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Cell/Molecular Biology for a tenure-track position within the Natural Sciences Department. The role focuses on teaching, developing new courses, engaging in scholarly activities, and contributing to student growth in a diverse educational environment. The position is set to begin on August 18, 2025, and aims to empower a post-traditional student population through effective teaching and community engagement.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field with enrollment in a doctoral program.
  • Demonstrated interest in a faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
  • A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s).
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students and colleagues who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse.

Nice To Haves

  • A completed terminal degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at a post-secondary institution.

Responsibilities

  • Teach general biology, genetics, cell and/or molecular biology courses effectively to a post-traditional student population.
  • Develop new courses in developmental biology and potentially in other areas of expertise.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.
