About The Position

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (10-month) position. The successful candidate will provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in biology, establish and maintain an active research program that engages undergraduate students, and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise lies at the intersection of biology and data-driven science. Areas of specialization may include (but are not limited to): genomics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, molecular biology, data science applications in biology, and the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies in biological research. Candidates with experience applying computational and quantitative approaches to complex biological problems are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field (required)
  • Evidence of research experience with scholarly productivity (required)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and teach assigned courses, including syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.
  • Teach lower-level biology courses for majors and non-majors; also teach upper-level courses aligned with expertise.
  • Deliver engaging, interactive, and consistent instruction aligned with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain high standards of teaching effectiveness and engage in reflective self-assessment for continuous improvement.
  • Hold regular office hours, advise students, and provide academic support.
  • Develop and maintain an active research program in biology or a related field, including opportunities for undergraduate student involvement.
  • Demonstrate evidence of scholarly productivity, such as publications, presentations, and grant activity.
  • Collaborate with departmental faculty on curriculum development and program growth.
  • Ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are achieved.
  • Participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees and service activities.
  • Contribute to community, institutional, and professional service in alignment with the University's mission.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain strong instructional and research skills.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
