About The Position

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:  The Assistant Professor of Nursing is responsible for facilitating online nursing courses in both the MSN Non-NP and DNP programs that meet the quality and standards set forth by the accrediting bodies and American Sentinel College under the guidance of the Program Chair, Assistant Dean, and the Dean of the Programs.   ORGANIZATIONAL DIMENSIONS OF JOB:   This position works with the Program Chair and the Assistant Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Programs to maintain curriculum integrity, promote optimum learning opportunities for students, and foster a rich online environment for the students.

Requirements

  • Provide all necessary documentation (curricula vitae, official transcripts, etc.) to support teaching credentials.
  • Have complete familiarity with American Sentinel academic policies.
  • Review and abide by the Faculty Handbook (DNP Project Chair Commitment) and DNP Project Guide.
  • Provide updates to curriculum vitae and other photographic, video, or textual biographical material and agree to their use on American Sentinel websites and other public materials.
  • Provide copies of any licenses or certifications annually (or when renewed).
  • Provide regular updates to American Sentinel about other teaching assignments, research and publications, professional development, or academic activities.
  • Provide advice to American Sentinel, where appropriate, on general policies and programs for improvement of student outcomes and school programs.
  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field, master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university; clinical nursing experience; preferred experience in nursing leadership or administration and/or research; preparation for teaching in the college or university setting, and the promise of scholarly work as described in the faculty section of the Faculty Handbook.
  • Must possess an unencumbered Registered Nursing License.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain course integrity.
  • Review and revise courses as assigned.
  • Respond to all students’ communications within two business days.
  • Review posts and replies in a timely manner.
  • Promote discussion board participation.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress within the course and take corrective action if the professor feels the student needs extra help.
  • Provide substantial feedback in a timely manner to each student in the course for assignments that contribute to the final grade of the course.
  • Grade all assignments in a timely manner.
  • Grade all weekly discussion posts/replies in a timely manner.
  • Encourage students to complete the course evaluation at the end of the term.
  • Be an active part of the American Sentinel team.
  • Attend meetings and participate in committees.
  • Participate in accreditation activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Actively participate in American Sentinel DNP Project Chair training sessions when requested.
  • Chair DNP Projects as assigned and follow DNP Scholarly Project guidelines.
  • Review project-related scholarly documents and notify American Sentinel of any necessary corrections/updates.
  • Meet regularly with students to ensure they make adequate progress on their projects.
  • Manage individual students’ project processes in the DNP Workroom, ensuring that the project topic meets the needs of a scholarly DNP Project as outlined in the AACN guidelines for Projects.
  • Review project submissions within 10 business days (5 days preferred) from date of submission and provide timely feedback.
  • Respond to student inquiries with a maximum response time of 24 hours during the week and 48 hours on weekends.
  • Prepare doctoral students for Proposal and Final Defenses.
  • Assist students in scheduling their Proposal and Final Defenses.
  • Attend and actively participate in Proposal and Final Defenses sessions.
  • Review students’ IRB application for accuracy.
  • Assist the student with project implementation and data analysis.
  • Any additional duties outlined in the DNP Project Guide.
