About The Position

This is a 10 hour/week Assistant Professor position. In collaboration with the nurse anesthesia faculty and Program Administrator, the Assistant Professor for the Nurse Anesthesia Program assumes a beginning leadership role in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum and learning experiences of students in classroom, laboratory/simulation, and clinical settings. The Assistant Professor for the Nurse Anesthesia Program will ensure congruence between the mission of College and University and the education goals of the nurse anesthesia program in collaboration with the Program Director and faculty. In collaboration with nurse anesthesia faculty and Program Director, the Assistant Professor for the Nurse Anesthesia Program will ensure congruence with standards established by the Council of Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution
  • Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • State Board of Nursing licensure for states where clinical assignments performed
  • National certification as a Certified Registered Anesthetist
  • Evidence of continuing education
  • Professional memberships relevant to areas of expertise
  • Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in a collegiate nursing program OR Two (2) years at the rank of Instructor at an accredited institution or equivalent experience
  • Five (5) years full-time post-secondary teaching experience at an accredited institution OR Five (5) years full time clinical experience OR combination of the above
  • Evidence of progressive leadership and academic responsibilities
  • Evidence of effective teaching
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity, other than doctoral dissertation, which may be demonstrated by contributions to the professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings and/or grantsmanship
  • Participation in College and/or University Committees

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Program Administrator and nurse anesthesia faculty to ensure a curriculum that is consistent with the other advanced nurse practitioner programs offered within the College of Nursing and the educational standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs
  • Organizes the curriculum to ensure logical sequence of teaching and learning: identifies minimum clinical competencies required of all graduates; participate sin the didactic teaching program; maintains program records/files, current cumulative student records/files, and clinical faculty records/files in collaboration with administrative support staff
  • Administers anesthesia one day per week in order to maintain his/her clinical expertise and participates in clinical instruction of students when they are assigned to the University affiliated hospital(s)
  • Participates in recruitment activities of the College and University including the review of program applications and serving on the nurse anesthesia admissions selection committee
  • Communicates effectively with personnel utilizing appropriate channels, maintaining open channels of communications with students, course faculty, and staff
  • Provides an environment conducive to student engagement and participation and the assimilation and enrichment of a diverse student body
  • Provides oversight for student advisement and remediation
  • Serves on College committees and shows evidence of an emerging leadership role
  • Serves as a mentor for didactic and clinical faculty
  • Represents the College in appropriate University activities
  • Participates actively in professional organizations
  • Participates in activities to improve the quality of nursing care to the consumer
  • Contributes to the nursing profession through scholarly papers, presentations, and publications in nursing literature
  • Utilizes contemporary and innovative teaching methodologies in classroom, laboratory/simulation, and clinical settings
  • Develops and begins to implement a scholarly agenda
  • Participation in College and/or University Committees
  • Participation in professional organizations at local, state or national levels
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University.
