About The Position

The Radiology Department and Radiation Safety Office of the University of Pittsburgh invite applications for a nuclear medicine physicist to join our growing team and program across a network of hospitals and imaging centers. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and theragnostics within a leading academic health system. We are looking for a medical physicist specializing in imaging to lead harmonization and quality assurance efforts across a multi-site system with varied imaging platforms, vendors, and workflows. The ideal candidate will be passionate about standardization, translational research, and supporting the clinical growth of theragnostics, dosimetry, and quantitative imaging. You will work directly with the Chief of Nuclear Medicine to design and implement a forward-looking strategy that elevates clinical operations, builds research capacity, and establishes the system as a national leader in molecular imaging and therapy.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field.
• Board certification (or eligibility) in Nuclear Medical Physics (ABR/ABSNM).
• Strong background in quantitative PET/SPECT imaging, theragnostics, and dosimetry.
• Demonstrated experience in multi-vendor system harmonization and QA program development.
• Interest in translational research and academic collaboration.
• Demonstrated effective organizational, project management, and written/oral communication skills are required.
• The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, be self-motivated, and be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Harmonization, developing and implementing protocols and calibration metrics
• Quality Assurance Development and establishing a robust QA/QC framework for SPECT, PET, and hybrid modalities, ensuring compliance with ACR, SNMMI, and regulatory standards
• Support for clinical and research theragnostics, leadership in medical physics for multiple radionuclide therapeutic uses including beta and alpha emitters, patient-specific dosimetry, treatment planning, and post-therapy verification
• Participate in Education & Training by providing expertise and mentorship for medical residents, technologists, and junior faculty in nuclear medicine physics in practical applications to routine clinical and therapeutics practice, as well as best practices in imaging
• Participation in current CAMPEP-approved imaging residency is required, and expansion of the program to include a CAMPEP nuclear medicine program is expected
• Faculty will collaborate with nuclear medicine physicians, technologists, and clinicians-scientists to optimize clinical operations and research.
