About The Position

• The Department is looking for a qualified candidate to teach various undergraduate courses in public relations, with secondary responsibilities in teaching marketing and professional selling courses. The ideal candidate should be able to teach various public relations courses (e.g., Public Relations Principles, Public Relations Tactics, and Reputation Management Crisis and Communication). Teaching graduate courses in marketing and sales might also be required. The candidate will participate in developing and improving curriculum and curriculum delivery, assessment of student learning, service work including student engagement activities and committees, and engage in scholarly activities and professional development aligned with current and emergent programmatic needs. The candidate will assist to grow and expand the public relations program. Faculty members have professional responsibilities, including advising students, participating in committees, keeping regularly posted office hours, and participating in traditional functions with academic significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus and/or online. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026 at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest. However, these are estimated dates and can be revised if needed. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: • PhD or DBA in Marketing or related field such as Communication or Advertising. If doctorate is in related field, such as Communication or Advertising, 18 graduate hours in marketing courses are required. ABD may be considered. Required Work Experience: • College-level teaching experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses per semester.
  • The course topics will be assigned based on the credentials to teach them.
  • The courses the faculty member could include but are not limited to: Public Relations Principles, Public Relations Tactics, Reputation Management Crisis and Communication, Integrated Marketing Communications, Principles of Marketing, Professional Selling.
  • Committed to enhancing teaching and engaging in scholarly and professional development activities to accommodate changing market needs.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and personal initiative. Works both independently and collaboratively.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Employs different teaching methods as appropriate (e.g., face-to-face, online, and blended strategies).
  • Committed to enhancing teaching and engaging in scholarly and professional development activities to accommodate changing market needs.
  • Works independently and collaboratively with effective communication and listening skills.
  • A willingness to work with the PRSSA and/or Marketing Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).
  • The candidate will assist to grow and expand the marketing and public relations programs.
  • Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (e.x. reporting initial student data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an online environment.
