Saint Mary's College of California is seeking two tenure-track Assistant Professors for an interdisciplinary cluster in California Studies, focusing on Ethnic Studies and U.S./California History with an emphasis on Public History. The role aims to address the unique challenges faced by historically marginalized populations in California, fostering engaged learning and community-based research. Successful candidates will expand the Ethnic Studies and Public History programs and collaborate with various interdisciplinary programs at the College.

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Ethnic Studies and Public History, including Introduction to Ethnic Studies and California History.
  • Develop and expand the Ethnic Studies and Public History program offerings.
  • Engage in community-based research and partnerships with local organizations.
  • Mentor underrepresented undergraduate students in higher education.
  • Contribute to the College's Core Curriculum and interdisciplinary programming.
  • Ph.D. in U.S. History with a focus on Public History or Ethnic Studies, or related fields such as Education or American Studies.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching or potential for effective teaching.
  • Research potential aligned with the California Studies cluster theme.
  • Experience mentoring underrepresented students.
  • Record of collaborative interdisciplinary research.
  • Experience with curricular development.
  • Experience acquiring external funding.
  • Successful collaboration with community organizations.
  • Engagement in a vibrant academic community.
  • Opportunities for professional development and scholarly growth.
