About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for an Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Public Policy [R0146267]. ROLE of the POSITION The UNLV School of Public Policy and Leadership invites applications for a full-time,12-month, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor-in-Residence in Public Policy to start July 1, 2026. The selected candidate will teach and support student experiential programming, primarily in the Doctor of Public Policy (DPP) Program, the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program, and the Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies Program. Highly competitive candidates will have demonstrated success in teaching, experiential learning, and student engagement in public policy, public administration, or related fields. The selected candidate will be expected to engage in teaching and advising at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and enhance student involvement in field experiences across the mentioned programs. This position also requires individuals that are adept at implementing creative and practical approaches in education and student engagement. The successful candidate will be expected to teach using various delivery methods, including online, hybrid, and in-person formats. Priority will be placed on applicants with experience in public administration, urban studies, or public policy who can deliver instruction on policy implementation, public management and public governance. The selected candidate may also occasionally engage community stakeholders and public agencies in Nevada and at the federal level.

Requirements

  • This position requires a PhD in public administration, public policy or a closely related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Applicants must have at least 6+ years of experience working collaboratively across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to improve community outcomes.
  • Experience should include roles that involve significant project leadership, program development, and stakeholder engagemen t .
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

  • Proven excellence in teaching graduate students in public policy or administration, with a focus on designing curricula tailored to public sector needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement experiential learning opportunities and community engagement initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in public policy or public administration, coupled with a commitment to supporting diverse student populations.
  • Prior experience in project management is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full course load (12 credit hours).
  • Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate with the Graduate College on matters related to the School’s graduate programs.
  • Lead and contribute to graduate program development, including the delivery of the DPP program.
  • Lead and support graduate program recruitment initiatives.
  • Play a key role in guiding and writing academic program assessments.
  • Work with the MPA program’s accrediting body.
  • Manage MPA program internships and oversee student professional development, including organizing student involvement in Pi Alpha Alpha.
  • Participate in service and mentorship activities within the School.
  • Serve on School committees.
