About The Position

The Department of Kinesiology and Health at Rutgers University - New Brunswick invites applications for a tenure-track position (nine-month academic year appointment) at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of Motor Behavior (appointment at a higher rank commensurate with experience will be considered). We seek a creative, collaborative scholar with expertise in motor learning, motor control, and/or motor development whose research advances understanding of human movement and behavior, with clear potential for extramural (e.g., NIH, NSF, DoD) funding. Specific relevant areas of interest include, but are not limited to: neural, cognitive, and behavioral mechanisms of motor learning or motor control; development of motor competence and its relation to lifelong physical activity and health; sensorimotor integration, motor adaptation, and motor planning; motor function and skill acquisition in clinical or developmental populations; translational approaches linking motor behavior to rehabilitation, disease prevention, or performance outcomes. Candidates whose research bridges motor behavior with biomechanics, exercise neuroscience, aging, rehabilitation, or physical activity promotion are especially encouraged to apply. The Department of Kinesiology and Health, housed within the Division of Life Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences, educates future professionals in exercise science and sport management, advances physical activity and integrative health research, and engages communities to improve quality of life. This growing department includes 12 tenure-stream faculty, 12 non-tenured full-time teaching faculty, and approximately 1,350 undergraduate majors. It offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Sport Management, M.S. programs in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology and Global Sports Business, and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology. Our faculty have active research programs currently supported by National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Our vision is to grow an integrated faculty that connects through teaching and research. New faculty receive mentorship and professional development in grant writing, publishing, laboratory management, and university navigation through individualized mentorship teams spanning the department and university. Rutgers University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals.
