About The Position

The Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Construction Materials, preferably at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department has established research activities in environmental, structural, geotechnical, transportation, and water resources engineering, and maintains strong interdisciplinary links across the Faculty of Engineering. The Department is committed to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and values service contributions to the University, the engineering profession, and society at large. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment that supports a diverse population and a broad range of perspectives. Given the diversity of our student body in terms of academic background, culture, and lived experience, candidates are invited to describe in their application how they will effectively teach, supervise, and mentor students within this context. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a first degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Evidence of outstanding research achievements or strong research potential is essential.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.
  • Expertise in experimental methods is expected

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with analytical, numerical, or data-driven approaches is considered an asset.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated research and teaching expertise in the broad area of construction materials. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to: Cementitious materials, concrete science, and advanced concrete technologies Sustainable, low-carbon, and alternative construction materials Durability, degradation, and life-cycle performance of civil engineering materials Materials for transportation and infrastructure systems, including pavements and bridges Characterization and modeling of construction materials at multiple scales Recycling, reuse, and circular economy approaches in construction materials Smart, multifunctional, and resilient construction materials Materials performance under extreme environmental, mechanical, or climatic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Developing an externally funded research program
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering
  • Supervising graduate students
  • Contributing to departmental, faculty, and professional service activities
