About The Position

The Department of Biology (www.biology.usu.edu) is seeking to fill a tenure-track (1.0 FTE, 9-month, 50% research, 40% teaching, 10% service) position in the area of Cell and Molecular Biology to start in the Fall of 2026. This includes biologists whose research addresses questions on the molecular basis of cellular function, developmental and cellular processes, genetic mechanisms, or neuroscience. The department seeks colleagues with a collaborative vision who are motivated to join a community dedicated to high-quality research and teaching that emphasizes acceptance and respect of all people. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or other Life Sciences.
  • A strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating expertise in the areas described in the overview or closely related.
  • A well-defined research plan that aligns with the job description.
  • Teaching experience at the university level or formal pedagogical training.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully mentor undergraduate or graduate students in research projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-doctoral experience in any or several of the fields described in the overview.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure funding.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary or translational research, and/or participation in multi-investigator grants.
  • Proficiency in advanced or emerging molecular methodologies.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods or technologies.
  • Experience in science communication to non-specialist audiences or involvement in community outreach programs.
  • Potential to collaborate with current faculty members or other faculty on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching load is typically one introductory undergraduate course and one upper-level undergraduate or graduate course in an area of specialization per year.
  • Successful candidates are expected to establish nationally recognized research programs that address fundamental questions and to be effective teachers and mentors to undergraduate and graduate students.
