The Department of Geosciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Hydrogeophysics, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026. This position will contribute to the department’s strengths in geophysical imaging and modeling of coupled biological, chemical, and physical processes in the shallow subsurface. The successful candidate will integrate hydrology, geophysics, and critical zone processes to address challenges related to water resources, sustainability, contaminant transport, and subsurface–biosphere interactions. The role is expected to enhance ongoing departmental research in hydrogeophysics, including areas such as field-based geophysical observations, computational modeling, and AI-driven analysis.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in hydrogeophysics and related fields.
  • Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in hydrogeophysics.
  • Conduct research using geophysical imaging and modeling to explore coupled biological, chemical, and physical processes in the shallow subsurface.
  • Recruit and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in cutting-edge research.
  • Support the department’s mission to provide hands-on, interdisciplinary training by supervising field-based courses and student research projects.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees such as curriculum committees or faculty search committees.
  • Engage in professional service activities within the discipline.
  • Ph.D. in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in hydrogeophysics that combines field-based geophysical observations, computational modeling, and AI-driven analysis.
