Metro State University is seeking a full-time, fixed-term Assistant Professor for the Master of Science in Co-occurring Disorders Recovery Counseling program within the Human Services Department. The role focuses on teaching graduate-level courses, engaging in scholarly activities, and contributing to student development in a diverse and inclusive educational environment. The position emphasizes a commitment to equitable outcomes for all students and requires effective communication and collaboration with a culturally diverse student body.

  • Teach graduate-level substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders counseling courses effectively.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education.
  • Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.
  • Earned doctoral degree in counselor education or related discipline.
  • Current unencumbered professional practice credential in substance use or mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated interest in faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
  • A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s).
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse students and colleagues.
  • Earned doctoral degree in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program.
  • Current unencumbered professional practice credentials in both substance use and mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.
  • Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
  • Employment covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO).
