About The Position

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level with a focus in regional economics and community economic development. The successful candidate will have a majority extension appointment with most of the remainder of the appointment focused on research (exact job duties distribution is negotiable). The successful candidate will also have an appointment as Faculty Fellow in the UW Center for Business and Economic Analysis. Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West experience periodic economic boom/bust cycles, wealth disparities between urban and rural areas, and a patchwork pattern of public and private land ownership. We seek an individual to develop an innovative, research and extension program that advances applied regional economic analysis in Wyoming and strengthens the Community Vitality and Health focus area of UW Extension. This program will support the land-grant mission by addressing critical issues that influence the well-being and resilience of communities across the state and region. Key topic areas may include: fostering agricultural entrepreneurship and agrotourism, estimating economic impacts of agriculture, strengthening the rural workforce, supporting balanced approaches to economic development and natural resource stewardship, enhancing local government fiscal health and policy, addressing rural housing, health care, and broadband access challenges, and improving rural labor conditions. The successful candidate will engage with diverse stakeholders to co-create solutions that promote sustainable, thriving communities. The successful candidate will disseminate research results through scholarly journal articles, extension publications, and presentations to academic, policy, and stakeholder audiences. Stakeholder audiences can include economic development professionals, industry leaders, state and local government policymakers, and federal agencies. The successful candidate is expected to seek external funding to support their research program and to seek collaborative research opportunities with other faculty and regional stakeholders. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to mentor MS students in Agricultural and Applied Economics and to seek committee assignments on other graduate (MS and PhD) committees across campus. Teaching a class at the graduate or undergraduate level (in person or distance) is also a potential opportunity, depending upon candidate interest and department needs.
