Department/College Background The Department of Health & Human Performance in the College of Health Professions is seeking qualified candidates who have demonstrated a record of success in research, teaching, and professional service in exercise science or kinesiology as Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. The position is a nine-month tenure-track faculty position. The responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a focused research agenda, procurement of external grants, participation in scholarly committees and taskforces, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise science or kinesiology, and performing other duties assigned by the department chair. Given that UTRGV is a distributed campus faculty will be required to teach in a variety of settings, incorporating technology and student-engaged pedagogies to maximize student success, and may be assigned to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses. Service to the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations is an integral part of the faculty member's responsibilities. Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Exercise Science with an educational background in Exercise Science/Kinesiology and or related fields from an accredited university. Candidates with ABD status will be considered, as long as the degree is conferred by August 20, 2026.
  • Earned doctorate degree in exercise science is preferred, with a record of success, or evidence of potential in research, teaching, and service.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in exercise science/kinesiology or related field.
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity, grant procurement, active participation in professional organizations, and evidence of contribution to curriculum development.
  • Certification through National and Strength and Conditioning Association and/or American College of Sports Medicine.
  • Open to a wide range of research topics, with a particular interest in diabetes, obesity, bone health, and cardiovascular health.
  • Teaching experience, online and in the classroom setting.
