About The Position

The Department of English at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Linguistics, beginning in August of 2026. Located in Baton Rouge, LSU is the flagship land-grant institution in Louisiana and a Research 1 (R1) University. We support research and teaching in a broad range of fields and many interdisciplinary programs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field by the time the position begins.
  • Record of publication or strong promise of future scholarly achievement.
  • Ability to teach and direct research in sociolinguistics or language acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses such as Descriptive English Grammar, Dialects of English, Introduction to Linguistics, and Topics in Language Studies.
  • Conduct graduate seminars in the area of faculty specialization.
  • Design new courses of interest and collaborate with existing interdisciplinary programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain an active scholarly profile on par with the expectations of an R1 institution.
