About The Position

SUNY Oneonta's Department of Secondary Education and Educational Technology seeks a colleague to join us as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English Education beginning Fall 2026, contributing to our mission of preparing effective and reflective secondary educators. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, student advisement, service to the school, university, and community, and continuing professional development. Our curriculum emphasizes three interrelated dimensions: general education, content education, and professional education. Together these equip our students to become thoughtful and effective facilitators of learning. The Department offers nine undergraduate programs and a graduate program in Educational Technology, and is home to the Leatherstocking Writing Project, a local site of the National Writing Project. These programs provide meaningful opportunities for teacher inquiry, collaborative research, and engagement with grades 7-12 educators and youth across subject areas. Requirements

  • Ph.D or Ed.D from an accredited institution in English Education or closely related field. ABD considered; degree conferral by the issuing institution by start of employment.
  • Teaching certification in secondary content.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in grades 7-12.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with teaching English or Literacy Education courses.
  • Experience with college level instruction.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, and service with diverse and/or multicultural populations.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate English and Literacy Education courses, as well as other undergraduate and graduate courses in education.
  • Providing early field and clinical supervision of student teachers.
  • Maintaining an active research and publishing agenda.
  • Advising students.
  • Providing service to the university and community.
