About The Position

The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track Advanced Assistant Professor in Composition to begin in August 2026. The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in undergraduate writing programs.
  • Demonstrated promise of scholarly achievement commensurate with a tenure-track appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience in writing program administration.
  • Published scholarship on writing program administration or composition pedagogy.
  • Active research agendas in writing assessment, composition technologies, online pedagogy, writing center theory and practice, or multilingual writing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate writing courses primarily in Academic Writing (AWR) and general education (Spartan Studies) programs.
  • Develop curricula for writing programs and general education courses.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publish in relevant fields.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including potential leadership roles in writing program administration.
