Wheaton CollegeWheaton, IL

About The Position

Wheaton College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Engineering with a Civil and/or Environmental specialization to begin Fall 2026. Wheaton’s engineering program has recently expanded from a 3-2/Dual Degree program to include a BS Engineering major with Mechanical, Biomedical, and Civil/Environmental concentrations. The successful candidate will teach foundational engineering courses (e.g., Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, and Engineering Graphics) and will develop new required and elective courses within the Civil/Environmental concentration. This faculty member may also teach courses for non-majors in our general education curriculum as well as seminar-style courses for majors such as an Introduction to the Profession course for first-year students or a capstone Engineering Ethics seminar. Applicants must possess an earned Ph.D. in a related engineering discipline. We seek candidates who are excited to mentor and engage students with an active learning model that challenges and supports each student. Previous teaching and industry experience, with hands-on design and project-based learning experience, are highly valued. The ability to mentor engineering students in the integration of Christian faith with the practice of engineering is an important component of this position. Faculty are expected to maintain an active and productive program of scholarship that engages Wheaton undergraduate students. Experience as an ABET evaluator or similar experience with the process of ABET accreditation is desirable. The budgeted salary range for the position is $63,000 – $69,000 for Assistant Professor; $72,000 – $76,000 for Associate Professor (9 months, base salary). Faculty are encouraged to supplement this with external grant funding or consulting in summer months. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline. As a Christ-centered community, Wheaton College faculty and staff must affirm the College’s Statement of Faith as expressing their own theological convictions and agree to live by the moral standards in Wheaton’s Community Covenant, modeling these commitments for the Christian formation of our students. Wheaton College faculty and staff also support the Christ-Centered Diversity Commitment, which highlights our desire to treat all individuals as equal image-bearers of Jesus Christ. We encourage applications from candidates who will work to deepen Christ-centered diversity by fostering a campus climate where all faculty, staff, students, and alumni feel welcomed, respected, valued, and supported. For more information about Wheaton College visit www.wheaton.edu . Additionally, Wheaton College is committed to providing a physically safe environment for students, staff, and faculty to learn and work. In support of this objective, the College requires background checks for final candidates, after an employment offer is extended. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Interested individuals should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of interest. The letter of interest should clearly articulate the candidate’s qualifications in terms of teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. Additionally, candidates should describe their interest in mentoring engineering students in the integration of Christian faith and learning by drawing from their own personal Christian faith background. Additional application materials will be emailed to promising candidates. Review of applications will begin September 22 and continue until the position is filled.
