About The Position

The Department of Natural & Applied Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biology (Ecology) with a research emphasis on climate and global change. We seek candidates whose expertise addresses one or more of the following areas: global change impacts on biodiversity, including species interactions; climate-driven changes in wildlife populations; ecosystem dynamics under climate and disturbance; or quantitative ecology of climate impacts. Expertise in at least one of the thematic areas described above, with preference for candidates whose work incorporates quantitative or data-driven approaches. The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary academic unit that includes environmental scientists, biologists, chemists, physicists, and geoscientists. This position will support UW–Green Bay’s mission-driven commitment to inclusive teaching and creating an educational environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates individuals with diverse identities, beliefs, and backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Candidates who have not completed their doctorate by the start date will be hired into a terminal appointment at the rank of Instructor with a rate determined at the time of hire. Upon degree conferral, the title will change to Assistant Professor. The contract will not be renewed if the degree is not conferred by the end of the terminal appointment
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scholarly activities consistent with rank.
  • Contribute to teaching at the graduate level in the Environmental Science and Policy and/or Biological Conservation and Management programs, including classes in the human dimensions of conservation.
  • Perform institutional and community service.
  • Develop a strong, externally visible research program that actively engages undergraduate and graduate students and fosters collaboration with faculty and community partners.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Implement inclusive instructional strategies to support students from underrepresented and first-generation backgrounds.
  • Teach lower- and upper-level courses in the undergraduate Biology and Environmental Science programs, including an introductory organismal biology course for majors, general education biology courses for non-majors, as well as lecture, field, or lab courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, particularly courses related to climate. A typical load is equivalent to 24 contact hours annually (approximately four courses per semester, depending on assignment).
  • Contribute to ongoing program development.
