The Department of Statistical Sciences at Wake Forest University is inviting applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, set to commence on July 1, 2024. The department is open to candidates from all areas within Statistics, Biostatistics, and Data Science, reflecting a commitment to a broad and inclusive approach to statistical education and research. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in both teaching and research, alongside a desire to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The department emphasizes the importance of enhancing the breadth, depth, and diversity of its statistics programs, and thus seeks applicants who have a proven track record or a keen interest in working with diverse populations. The teaching load for these positions is two courses per semester, allowing faculty to engage deeply with students while also pursuing their research interests. The department currently comprises twelve permanent faculty members, whose research spans a variety of areas including actuarial science, applied probability, Bayesian methods, bioinformatics, biostatistics, causal inference, clinical trials, environmental statistics, foundations of statistics, functional data analysis, measurement error, missing data, networks, epidemiology, spatio-temporal models, and statistics education. The department offers a range of statistics programs, including both a B.A. and a B.S. in Statistics, a B.S. in Applied Statistics, a B.S. in Mathematical Business, an M.S. in Statistics, and a Graduate Certificate in Data Science. Candidates are required to submit a complete application that includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. The cover letter should articulate why the teaching and research environment at Wake Forest aligns with the candidate's professional interests and goals. Additionally, candidates should address their experience and/or plans for fostering inclusive classrooms and varied mentoring opportunities, contributing to a diverse and equitable community of learning and belonging. At least two letters of recommendation should focus on the applicant's scholarship and/or scholarship potential, while at least one should address their teaching abilities.
