About The Position

The Creative Arts Therapy Department of Nazareth University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025. The department seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. Applicants who will contribute to the college's commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities will include teaching art therapy courses, conducting scholarly endeavors, and providing service to the department, college, and community. Additional responsibilities may include oversight and management of the on-campus art therapy clinic as well as being asked to teach courses in the summer sessions. The Department of Creative Arts Therapy resides in the new William and Sheila Konar Creative Arts Therapy wing of the York Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute (YWRI), a state-of-the-art clinic space, complete with observation rooms, providing on-campus art, music and play therapy for community residents. The YWRI supports the commitment of the College of Interprofessional Health and Human Services to interprofessional education, clinical training, and research. The art therapy program at Nazareth University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of The Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE). Requirements

  • Earned Doctorate in Art Therapy or related field (Will consider ABD with planned completion by May 2025)
  • Candidate must hold the ATR-BC
  • New York State License in Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT) preferred; applicants without LCAT will be expected to obtain license within 1-2 years
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience
  • Demonstrated record of successful teaching in higher education

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement through presenting, publication, or professional service, commensurate with professional experience and stage of career
  • Knowledge of and experience with trauma treatment, the Expressive Therapies Continuum, and cultural humility in art therapy/mental health
  • Training and experience in a specialized model of mental health care (e.g. EMDR, ACT, DBT, TF-CBT)
  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with clinical supervision
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching in higher education
  • Knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards
