About The Position

A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking a full-time, exempt Assistant Professor/Clinical Psychiatrist on the Kirksville, MO campus. This position reports to the Executive Director Practice Management. The Assistant Professor/Clinical Psychiatrist provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and treatment for patients served by a Missouri-licensed Rural Health Clinic. This position supports integrated, team-based care in a rural setting and works collaboratively with primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, nursing staff, and community partners to improve access to mental health services for rural and underserved populations.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited Psychiatry residency program.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Current, unrestricted Missouri medical license (or eligibility for Missouri licensure).
  • DEA registration eligible for Missouri.
  • Eligibility for credentialing and privileging at a Missouri Rural Health Clinic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rural and underserved healthcare environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and psychopharmacology skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to rural populations.
  • Ability to manage complex cases in resource-limited settings.
  • Comfort with EHR systems and telehealth platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience practicing in a Rural Health Clinic, Federally Qualified Health Center, or community mental health setting.
  • Experience with integrated care or collaborative care models.
  • Telepsychiatry experience.
  • Familiarity with Missouri Medicaid (MO HealthNet) behavioral health services.
  • Interest in population health and rural mental health delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management for adult and/or pediatric patients.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of psychiatric disorders, including mood anxiety, psychotic, trauma-related, attention, and substance use disorders (within scope of practice).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Provide follow-up care to assess clinical outcomes, medication effectiveness, and patient safety.
  • Provide consultation and coordination of care with primary care providers and behavioral health clinicians.
  • Participate in integrated primary care–behavioral health service delivery models within the Rural Health Clinic.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, licensed behavioral health providers, nursing, and care coordination staff.
  • Support continuity of care through referrals and coordination with Missouri community mental health centers, hospitals, and specialty providers.
