Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education in the Department of Childhood, Bilingual and Special Education within the School of Education with a starting date in August 2026. The Department of Childhood, Bilingual, and Special Education (CBSE) at Brooklyn College prepares teachers to effectively serve diverse learners in urban settings. Grounded in social justice and the belief that all children can learn, our programs develop skilled educators with strong pedagogical knowledge and effective teaching practices who integrate research, theory, and practice. We emphasize preparation for teaching bilingual students and students with special needs, fostering culturally responsive, reflective teachers who are attuned to their students, families, and communities. Our programs also equip teacher candidates with equity-focused approaches to computing education, digital and AI literacies, enabling them to design and evaluate curricula that integrate computational thinking, digital literacies, and AI applications across content areas, and leverage technology to build on bilingual students' strengths. Through extensive fieldwork and student teaching experiences, our programs also promote career readiness by bridging theory and practice and ensuring that candidates are well prepared to meet the realities of diverse classrooms. CBSE houses undergraduate and graduate programs in Bilingual Education, including the BA in Childhood Bilingual Education (offered in partnership with the Department of Puerto Rican and Latinx Studies), the MSEd in Childhood Bilingual Education, and the Advanced Certificate in Bilingual Extension (Birth-Grade 12). Our department collaborates with the Departments of Communicative Arts, Speech and Disorders, and School Psychology, Counseling, and Leadership to offer specialized bilingual education coursework for Teachers of Students with Speech-Language Disabilities (TSSLD) candidates and School Counselors. In addition, we partner with the New York City Public Schools to support bilingual educator preparation through the New York City Teaching Fellows and Extension Certification programs. We seek faculty with expertise in bilingual education pedagogy and research to prepare culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse teacher candidates to work effectively with multilingual students and their families. CBSE values scholars whose research in bilingual education advances social and racial justice and equity. Successful candidates will bring a robust research agenda in Bilingual Education, a dedication to excellence in teaching and mentoring of students, and a commitment to multidisciplinarity and innovation to our departmental community.
