About The Position

The University of Kansas School of Music is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor - Artist - Teacher of Cello. This position will teach applied cello lessons (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses; build and maintain a strong cello studio; work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students; supervise/mentor teaching assistants; work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees; establish a research/creative agenda pursuant of artistic growth and an expanding reputation of excellence; and participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University. The University of Kansas School of Music is a comprehensive university music school offering professional training in a wide array of specializations through baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs. A charter member of the National Association of Schools of Music (1928), KU is the only institution authorized by the Kansas Board of Regents to grant doctoral degrees in music. Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in music by the start of appointment; OR a master's degree in music and 7 years of applied relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated record of productive teaching excellence at the collegiate or equivalent level.
  • Documented success as a cello artist/performer, as evidenced in application materials.

Responsibilities

  • Teach applied cello lessons (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses
