About The Position

The Assistant Professor position in Adolescence Science Education at SUNY Geneseo is a tenure-track role focused on teaching and mentoring preservice teachers in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate courses, supervise field experiences, and contribute to curriculum design and scholarly research. Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Teaching & Curriculum, Adolescence Education, Multicultural Education, Urban Education, Critical Pedagogy, or a closely related field, or ABD with a designated completion date.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescence education and science education.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in teaching, research, and service.
  • Evidence of scholarly engagement in areas such as adolescence education, science education, multicultural education, and critical pedagogies, including peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.
  • Experience teaching science at secondary (7-12) grade levels or teaching science education at the higher education level.

Nice To Haves

  • Teacher certification in adolescence science education.
  • Three or more years of experience teaching in an adolescence science (7-12) setting.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations, including English Language Learners.
  • Evidence of college teaching and advisement experience.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates in field placements and collaborating with schools and community partnerships.
  • Experience with curriculum design, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in grades 7-12 or undergraduate teacher candidates.
  • Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards and inquiry-based learning strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and possibly graduate coursework in Adolescence Education, including courses such as Dimensions of Teaching and Inquiry, Topics in Secondary Science Education, and Methods and Materials in Secondary Science Education.
  • Supervise preservice teacher education candidates in the field and support partnerships with field experience and student teaching placements.
  • Participate in curriculum design, assessment, accreditation activities, and other School and College service.
  • Conduct research and pursue scholarly work in areas of expertise, particularly involving teacher candidates.
  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for teacher candidates.
