About The Position

The Assistant Production Manager plays an integral role in the building and organization of the Production department's daily technical schedule and is vital to the successful execution of Ravinia's performances. While there are stage management responsibilities within this position, all technical stage elements are handled by a union stage crew. Based on the concert schedule, this position will be working 40 - 60 hours per week for 15 weeks. This position is paid bi-weekly.

Requirements

  • Experience with the technical aspects of concert production
  • Experience working in live performances (from the performance or arts management end)

  • Drivers must be age 19+
  • Record must be free of any violation for speeding in excess of 19mph over the speed limit within the last three years
  • Record must be free of multiple speeding violations (of any severity) within the last three years
  • Record must be free of any at-fault accident violations within the last five years

Nice To Haves

  • Experience overseeing and managing staff
  • Experience with technical advances and stage management
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Fluency in more than one language is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical advance for Sandra K. Crown Theater, Carousel Stage, Martin Theatre, and select Bennett Gordon Hall and mainstage performances (e.g. run-of-show schedules, tracking backline requirements and rentals as dictated by artist contracts and riders, scheduling mandatory stagehand breaks, etc.)
  • Serve as stage manager for Sandra K. Crown Theater, Carousel Stage, Martin Theatre, and select Bennett Gordon Hall and Pavilion performances, as assigned
  • Review, finalize, and distribute run-of-show schedules for all performances in coordination with the Production Manager and Manager of Artist Services and Programming
  • Distribute weekly internal emails with performance-related information (e.g. security needs, buses/trucks, concert timings, artist signings, etc.)
  • Serve as a point person alongside the Production Manager in handling artist and Ravinia related security needs (e.g. relaying artist/concert security needs to Ravinia Security team, discussing Ravinia security protocols with artist team, coordinating artist vehicle arrival and departure needs, etc.)
  • Coordinate tour/venue credential needs and create pass sheets to be distributed at pre-concert security meetings for all assigned performances
  • Alongside the Operations Coordinator, serve as Production liaison for opera or staged productions to ensure the production runs smoothly. Responsibilities may include: serving as a main point of contact for the cast and creative team, sharing production updates, coordinating daily calls with stage managers, communicating schedules, coordinating prop and wardrobe needs, etc.
  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day backstage operations and staff in partnership with the Production Manager, Production Operations Manager, and Operations Coordinator
  • Provide supplemental driving assistance to the Production department with artist transportation and errands, as needed
  • Act as main receptionist/dispatch for Production department, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
