About The Position

This position plays a key role in the Operations Department. The Assistant Production Manager supports the Operations team ensuring cohesive communication and production implementation within the team. This position supports the Director of Production in the producing of all concerts and events. I. Summary Title: Assistant Production Manager Reports to: Director of Production Status: Full-Time Salaried, Exempt Basic Function: Assist in the producing of all concerts and events of the Nashville Symphony II. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assist Director of Production to ensure production needs are met for Concerts and Events Perform event-related responsibilities that may include stage management, lighting, audio, carpentry or other areas of support for the Nashville Symphony and clients of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Interpret technical riders and advance needs with touring productions and clients Assist in sourcing materials and equipment as needed for productions Develop stage plots for assigned orchestra programs Lead load-ins, rehearsals, performances and load-outs for assigned concerts and events Maintain concert hall and backstage area appearance and safety Supervise stagehands, visiting productions teams and vendors Act as a liaison between guest artists, technical staff, venue staff, visiting production teams and musicians; ensure compliance with musicians' Collective Bargaining Agreement. Prepare show reports, estimates and event billing while adhering to the Operations budget Assist in booking technical labor Assume life safety, crowd control and/or evacuation responsibility during emergencies in consultation with supervisors, the House Manager, building security and local authorities Attend production meetings Assist and support orchestra operations and production department personnel with job functions as needed III. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise part-time crew, visiting production teams, and vendors The duties listed above are not all inclusive. The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

Requirements

  • High School or GED equivalent
  • Understanding of live performance dynamics, with working knowledge in sound reinforcement, audio recording, theatrical lighting, video and projection technologies, coupled with a basic knowledge of orchestral instruments and repertoire
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent in embracing diversity through patient and empathetic engagement with individuals from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail, skillfully prioritizing tasks to enhance efficiency and meet organizational goals
  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in high-pressure, fast-paced environments

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as technical riders, and adept at preparing both routine and detailed reports, including regular expense tracking

  • Possession of a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license strongly desired
  • Flexible Schedule (days/nights, late/early hours, weekends, and holidays)
  • Essential: Microsoft apps and services
  • Vision requirements for this role include clarity of vision at close and long distances, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with one-year production experience with a professional orchestral, opera, theater, or other performing arts presenting organization strongly desired
  • Preferred: ArtsVision, AutoCAD or Vectorworks
