Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Good understanding of overall company practices and department operations.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver products weighing up to 60 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to push/pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks; performs repetitive arm movements for preparing, packaging, and displaying produce.
  • Requires manual dexterity, good eye‑hand coordination, and the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Mental alertness required to ensure safe and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Knowledge of basic math, weights and measures, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and departmental procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox equipment; uses cleaning supplies and related tools.
  • Uses computer systems and electronic ordering devices.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule may vary.
  • Good attendance is essential.
  • Possible exposure to hazards associated with equipment and tools used in daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast, friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions; makes in‑store intercom announcements as needed.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom, and one‑on‑one interaction.
  • Answers incoming calls, resolves customer concerns appropriately, and escalates issues to the Store Director when required.
  • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Trims, cuts, wraps, trays, displays, and waters produce. Builds and maintains produce displays; rotates and removes outdated or spoiled products. Maintains overall cleanliness of the department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • May be responsible for operating and maintaining the Salad Bar and/or Fresh‑Made programs (where applicable).
  • Follows and maintains department standards, including Fresh‑Made production standards and product freshness requirements.
  • Monitors employee productivity and assists in evaluating overall performance.
  • Assists with creating work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Possesses full knowledge of all department job duties, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures compliance with proper code‑dating procedures for all products.
  • Assists with physical inventories conducted every 4 weeks.
  • Assists with controlling inventory to ensure adequate quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains division‑directed stock levels. Stocks, rotates, and organizes the produce cooler.
  • Controls shrink and department costs.
  • Implements correct product preparation techniques; operates equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties such as breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating items.
  • Adheres to temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines; completes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Assists with accurately completing and monitoring the daily log sheet, Fresh‑Made Production Chart, sales and labor reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensures proper product temperature levels are maintained.
  • Ensures correct signage for all products, including accurate pricing and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).
  • Complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating requirements.
  • Follows all workplace safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of the department, equipment, cooler, and display areas.
  • Executes emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products.
  • May attend and participate in sales meetings; communicates sales goals, performance updates, and sales opportunities to department staff.
  • Complies with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all job duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other required duties as assigned.
