The Assistant Produce Manager at Albertsons Companies is responsible for maintaining a customer-focused environment while overseeing the daily operations of the produce department. This role emphasizes customer service, product quality, and effective inventory management, ensuring that the department meets company standards and profitability goals.

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling techniques.
  • Makes intercom announcements and answers incoming calls appropriately.
  • Receives and resolves customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as needed.
  • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes following company procedures.
  • Trims, cuts, wraps, trays, displays, and waters produce.
  • Builds produce displays, rotates, and discards outdated or spoiled products.
  • Ensures cleanliness of the work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • May be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Salad Bar and Fresh-Made.
  • Monitors employees' productivity and assists with evaluating their overall performance.
  • Assists with scheduling employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Maintains knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including opening and closing duties.
  • Ensures proper code dating for all products within the department is enforced.
  • Assists with physical inventory taken every 4 weeks and controls inventory levels according to division directives.
  • Stocks and rotates products, maintaining and organizing the produce cooler.
  • Controls shrink and cost, implementing correct product preparation techniques.
  • Uses and operates related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machine.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting quality, and reporting shortages.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Mid-level experience in a retail or grocery environment, preferably in produce management.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to engage with customers effectively.
  • Knowledge of produce handling, storage, and inventory management.
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as pallet jacks and safety cutters.
  • Familiarity with company policies and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff members.
