The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for assisting customers in their shopping experience by leading the Produce team in a way that promotes growth for the company and ensures that the team delivers the product and service that Cosentino customers expect. This position formally reports to the Produce Manager and is classified as a non-exempt position.

  • Provide direct supervision of the activities of all other members of the team in the absence of the Produce Manager.
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere that includes cooperation, teamwork, high morale, and recognition for a job well done.
  • Support the Produce Manager in coaching, corrective actions, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist in addressing employee relations issues and work with the Human Resource team to resolve issues.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve store management when necessary.
  • Implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
  • Manage the inventory process, including counting, tracking, planning, and ordering products.
  • Promote new items and weekly specials through merchandising and creative displays.
  • Answer customer questions accurately regarding department products, procedures, and policies.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards for team and individual results.
  • Inspect product for freshness, damage, and dates, and utilize proper rotation techniques.
  • Remove damaged or un-saleable products from shelves and follow procedures for damage claims.
  • Label or price merchandise as required and know how to obtain price signs.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Comply with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Keep the work area and department clean and safe for customers and coworkers.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive interactions.
  • A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • A minimum of 1 year of previous experience in retail produce management is required.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
