This evergreen requisition allows AMS to proactively identify strong instructional leaders for Assistant Principal opportunities supporting Grades K–4 across our Tucson campuses as staffing needs arise. The Assistant Principal (Grades K–4) plays a key role in supporting academic excellence and ensuring high-quality instruction across early elementary classrooms. This leader works closely with the campus principal and academic leadership team to strengthen foundational literacy, numeracy, and instructional rigor while cultivating a positive and structured learning environment for students and staff. The Assistant Principal supports teacher growth through instructional coaching, classroom observations, professional learning communities, and data-driven decision-making to ensure all students meet or exceed grade-level expectations. This role requires a leader who is committed to developing teachers, strengthening instructional practices, and improving outcomes for all students—especially those from historically underserved communities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of successful K–8 classroom teaching experience, preferably in elementary education.
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership experience (grade-level lead, mentor teacher, instructional coach, or similar role).
  • Strong experience with instructional coaching, teacher development, classroom observations, and professional learning facilitation.
  • Experience using student achievement data to guide instructional decision-making.
  • Experience working with diverse or at-risk student populations.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in technology and student data systems, including Excel and academic performance platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional reliability, longevity, and commitment to prior schools or organizations.
  • Strong commitment to the AMS mission of preparing students for college readiness and long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of high-quality instruction aligned with AMS academic standards and curriculum.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practice.
  • Coach and mentor teachers through modeling, co-planning, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Support implementation of foundational literacy and numeracy practices across early elementary classrooms.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, learning gaps, and instructional priorities.
  • Facilitate data meetings with grade-level teams to inform instructional adjustments and targeted interventions.
  • Monitor progress toward academic goals and support teachers in implementing strategies that improve student outcomes.
  • Help cultivate a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture.
  • Support systems for student behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning.
  • Partner with families and community members to promote student success and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and network leadership to implement academic initiatives and school-wide priorities.
  • Support school operations including scheduling, testing coordination, and compliance with state requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and leadership meetings to support continuous improvement across the network.
