About The Position

Christel House Indianapolis is accepting applications for a K-8 Assistant Principal for the 2026-2027 school year at Academy West. Christel House Schools is a growing network of high performing charter schools dedicated to serving low-income, urban students in Indianapolis. This position plans, directs, and coordinates the academic administration of instructional and support staff to ensure the best possible opportunities for student growth and development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education.
  • Indiana Administrators License.
  • 5+ years’ teaching experience.
  • Documented success in teaching and achieving outstanding results.
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • An agreement with the mission statement and goals of Christel House Academy and Christel House International

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leadership and supervision of high-risk students preferred.
  • Academic training in school leadership preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce discipline and attendance rules.
  • Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning problems.
  • Observe teachers in classrooms and examine materials to evaluate curriculum and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to develop and maintain curriculum standards and set performance goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the director and financial staff to develop annual budget needs.
  • Recommend and implement changes which will lead to improved administration, supervision and opportunity for student development.
  • Plan and lead professional development activities for teachers, administrators and support staff.
  • Coordinate and direct extracurricular activities and programs.
  • Actively participate and encourage staff participation in parent-teacher and other community groups to develop understanding, cooperation, and respect for school objectives and endeavors.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and local laws.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate instructional staff.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Model effective, differentiated instruction.
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support to instructional staff.
  • Participate in Network and Board meetings.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Other duties assigned.
