About The Position

Under the direction of the principal, the assistant principal serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs. This includes areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, student discipline and attendance. The assistant principal also provides supervision at athletics events and extracurricular programs, and evaluates personnel.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in the field of Educational Leadership.
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • An understanding of school administration and the duties of an assistant principal as an educational leader.
  • Type 75 Administrative Certificate � Illinois School Board of Education
  • Teacher Evaluator Certification (PERA)
  • Substantial knowledge of contemporary best practices with respect to managing student discipline.
  • Ability to adapt and modify approaches, as necessary, to meet student needs.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with students, parents and/or guardians, staff members, and community partners.
  • Capacity to be flexible, creative, and effective in approaches to problem-solving and relationship building.
  • Fundamental understanding of human development principles as applied to adolescents and teenagers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear and purposeful presentations.
  • Exercises sound and professional judgment in accordance with board policy.
  • Current and valid license or appropriate endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of MTSS programs that address the needs of all students, especially those considered to be at-risk.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal, and as assigned.
  • Assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership; implements new programs and initiatives aligned to the schools' strategic plan.
  • Supervises and evaluates the Dean of Students, School Resource Officer, and certificated staff; ensuring duties align with the schools' goals and objectives.
  • Supports Dean of Students with student discipline according to board policy.
  • Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves on discipline-related hearings as assigned.
  • Manages staff supervisory roles before/during/after school, and reinforces schoolwide expectations.
  • Oversees strategic efforts related to student attendance/truancy.
  • Participates in IEP/504 meetings; facilitates problem-solving meetings as needed
  • Supervises sports and extracurricular activities, including long distance field trips and overnight trips.
  • Collaborates with administration and community partners to ensure a safe, secure learning environment; develops and monitors student safety plans.
  • Develops and maintains accurate student records related to student discipline, attendance, and grades.
  • Participates in meetings and professional development that promotes professional growth.
  • All other duties, as assigned by school/district administration.
