Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley. Our mission at PUC Schools is to develop and manage high-quality charter schools in densely populated urban communities with overcrowded and low-achieving schools. The ideal Assistant Principal of Academics believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success.

Responsibilities

  • Be an instructional leader who will motivate, lead and mentor teachers to better instructional practice and increase content expertise by meeting the goals of the school-wide improvement plan
  • Review instructional documents and provide feedback to teachers
  • Observe classroom performance and give constructive feedback
  • Design and review progress toward Professional Growth Plan goals with teachers
  • Use appropriate data, in collaboration with others, to establish rigorous, concrete goals in the context of student achievement and instructional programs
  • Use research and/or best practices to drive decision-making about the academic program
  • Provide instructional resources to teachers
  • Design and deliver Professional Development on an ongoing basis that is based on school improvement plan
  • Facilitate weekly PD/Staff Meetings in alignment with school improvement plan and mission
  • Design and evaluate student intervention plans (academic & behavioral)
  • Attend IEP meetings, coordinate instructional actions by Resource Specialists, and ensure completion of IEP goals
  • Facilitate FST meetings in the absence of the Principal
  • Design process for measuring and monitoring individual student growth
  • Ensure academic program meets compliance regulations around credit and course requirement
  • Design an academic program that supports and promotes early college mission
  • Design a school improvement plan
  • Be an organizational leader who will motivate, lead, and mentor those within the school community
  • Develop and implement an ongoing process for assessing students' needs
  • Create school calendar, bell schedule, and courses that meet PUC Schools requirements
  • Create and facilitate the School Site Advisory Council
  • Own responsibility for the design and facilitation of annual parent events
  • Attend weekly principals' meetings including participation in Principals Course of Study (PCOS)
  • Work with Human Resources to manage all employee issues
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to recruit highly qualified teachers
  • Deliver evaluation, feedback, and support to the Principal
  • Deliver evaluation, feedback, and support for certificated staff in meeting common expectations
  • Accountability for maintaining schools' budgets, allocating funds where they will be most effectively in alignment with approved budget guidelines
  • Support the Principal in the development and execution of the Fundraising Plan
  • Responsible for the achievement of student enrollment targets
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of a plan for obtaining reimbursement payments for supplemental instruction
  • Be a cultural leader who will motivate, lead, and mentor the school community
  • Promote PUC Schools' values and vision while developing a sense of community in the school
  • Articulate the desired school culture and provide evidence of success
  • Communicate effectively to various stakeholders regarding progress toward goals outlined in the School Improvement Plan
  • Foster and establish effective relationships with the staff, students, parents, and peers
  • Plan, facilitate, and attend school functions, such as parent meetings, open house events, parent-teacher conferences, etc.
  • Provide leadership for assessing and developing processes for improving climate and culture
  • Recognize and celebrate accomplishments of staff and students systematically and fairly
  • Demonstrate visibility and engagement in the school community while being accessible and approachable to all stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop teachers to become leaders in their classrooms, school, and within the PUC network
  • Develop an environment and processes for ongoing collaboration and reflective practices for all stakeholders
  • Build a network with peers, educational leaders, and academic institutions to share ideas and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field required
  • Master's degree and administrative credential preferred
  • 5+ years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level, with a history of improving urban schools, increasing student achievement, and a passion for education reform
  • Previous leadership experience (department chair, Assistant Principal, Dean, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills
  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position
