About The Position

This posting is intended to build a pool of qualified candidates for anticipated future openings. Reporting Relationships The Assistant Principal - Instruction will report to the Principal. At the Principal’s discretion, the Assistant Principal will be assigned to supervise other school-based faculty and staff members. The Instructional Specialist will provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to educators to improve inclusive practices, language acquisition programs, literacy instruction, and teacher retention strategies. This role will focus on implementing evidence-based instructional strategies that support diverse learners, including students with exceptional needs and English learners, ensuring equitable access to high-quality education. The Instructional Specialist will collaborate with educators, administrators, and stakeholders to build capacity, enhance instructional effectiveness, and foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. As an administrator and key member of the school leadership team, this role also supervises staff and provides strategic input on school wide initiatives.

  • Ability to analyze data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience (5+ preferred), with a demonstrated record of exceptional academic outcomes for scholars
  • Background in coaching or mentoring teachers and facilitating professional development.
  • Experience in school leadership positions, such as Grade Level Lead or Instructional Coach
  • A clear California teaching credential or out of state equivalent highly preferred

  • Training and/or experience in instructional coaching is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching to teachers in alignment with the Equitas coaching model and systems.
  • Conducts regular classroom observations, providing actionable feedback aligned to agreed-upon goals, job responsibilities, and rubrics.
  • Coach and mentor teachers to further social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom and educator self-efficacy.
  • Co-design individualized professional learning plans to support the growth and development of teachers with a focus on developing and retaining novice teachers
  • Provide model/demonstration lessons for in-person observation; create videos modeling Equitas Signature Strategies.
  • Provide coaching and modeling of instructional strategies that enhance reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills across disciplines.
  • Promote teacher self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship-building, and responsible decision-making skills.
  • Design and lead professional learning communities and collaborative opportunities to support educators in sustaining high-quality teaching practices.
  • Create and facilitate professional development aligned to curriculum and instructional initiatives, informed by assessment data.
  • Support initiatives aimed at professional growth to enhance teacher retention and job satisfaction.
  • Support educators in implementing high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in literacy across all subject areas, including English language arts, social science, science, and mathematics.
  • Supports Adelante Instructors with student selection, intervention alignment to the school day and progress monitoring academic impact
  • Implement strategies to improve inclusive practices, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to support diverse learners.
  • Supports teachers in meeting the needs of Scholars with Disabilities and Emergent Bilingual Scholars.
  • Provide professional development on best practices for differentiated instruction and inclusive classroom strategies.
  • Collaborate with special education teams and general education teachers to support students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum.
  • Support educators in integrating language development strategies across content areas.
  • Provide training on instructional strategies to enhance language development and ensure alignment with state and federal guidelines for English learners.
  • Strengthen capacity for culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices.
  • Participate as an active member of the school leadership leadership team, including responding to student and teacher needs
  • Supervise teachers and staff members as assigned by the principal
  • Meet regularly with School Principal to discuss progress of direct reports
  • Serve as the Principal’s designee in the Principal’s absence and in relation to matters delegated by the Principal
