About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking outstanding Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialists to lead the students, staff, and community at various schools towards academic success. Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialist (APEIS) work as an itinerant administrator to assist principals in meeting special education compliance obligations, including ensuring the legal requirements for the IEP process are met and services outlined on the IEP are provided; ensures appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment; facilitates active parent participation in all aspects of the IEP process and school program; and advises school staff on implementation of academic and behavioral interventions prior to referral for special education. APEIS serve multiple schools and must have a valid California Driver's License, access to an automobile, and the ability to travel throughout the District. The schools are located in various parts of the Local District.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:will have both elementary and special education teaching experience; successful experience as a program specialist or in a position related to special education; and successful experience in an elementary school leadership position, such as a grade level chairperson, school coordinator, demonstration teacher or a position requiring leadership in the instructional program in grades Pre K- through 5th grade. Welligent experience and knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures are desirable.

Requirements

  • Valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Multicultural coursework
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • District Master Plan requirements
  • Five years of successful full-time public school certificated service
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Access to an automobile
  • Implementing academic and behavioral interventions
  • Developing and maintaining school wide systems to manage compliance
  • Resolving conflicts or complex issues with staff and students
  • Advocating for all students
