About The Position

YWCA Lancaster is looking for full-time Pre-K Counts Assistant Teacher, who is an integral part of our team. The role involves assisting the lead teacher in the development and implementation of lesson plans based on developmentally age-appropriate activities, ensuring a consistent daily routine for the children. The assistant teacher will help create a nurturing environment that supports the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of all children, while also ensuring compliance with licensing and legal regulations. Responsibilities include maintaining a positive team atmosphere, conducting developmental assessments, holding parent/teacher conferences, and advocating for Early Childhood Education programs in Pennsylvania.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years’ experience related to the care and development of children.
  • Certification in early childhood education preferred.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs and perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, crawling, climbing, and bending.
  • Respect for children and their parents, and a commitment to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teacher in the development and implementation of lesson plans based on developmentally age-appropriate activities.
  • Prepare a suitable physical and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing and legal regulations including DHS, Keystone STARS, Pre-K Counts, and CACFP.
  • Maintain a team atmosphere within the room.
  • Assist in the instruction and implementation of daily activities.
  • Assess children using developmental assessments twice per year.
  • Record data into the Teaching Strategies Gold System before deadlines.
  • Hold parent/teacher conferences twice a year.
  • Maintain appropriate interactions with children, parents, and staff.
  • Work cooperatively with the Center Director and staff.
  • Participate in the Pre-K Counts grant requirements.
  • Stay familiar with YWCA Lancaster policies and procedures.
  • Orient new parents and staff to the room.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Complete a minimum of 27 hours of training per year.
  • Maintain a current Professional Development Plan for Keystone STARS.
  • Advocate for Early Childhood Education programs in Pennsylvania.
  • Enforce center policies with parents, students, and children.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Pre-K Counts grant guidelines.
