About the position

The Assistant Power Plant Operator assists the Power Plant Operator in ensuring the safe operation of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment. This role involves maintaining a continuous watch of boilers and auxiliary equipment, taking hourly readings, and assisting the Operator with operational duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant. The position also requires ensuring the cleanliness of the plant, including the Biochar and ASH systems. The Assistant Power Plant Operator must perform duties in a safe, responsible, and productive manner, complying with all safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate boilers and auxiliary plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.
  • Make necessary adjustments to maintain safety and efficiency while adhering to environmental regulations.
  • Perform duties in a safe and responsible manner, complying with lock-out and safety procedures.
  • Assist with operational duties for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the plant, including the Biochar and ASH systems.
  • Be alert to pedestrian and truck traffic around the plants and co-gen facility.
  • Follow company refueling practices and wear protective gloves when refueling.
  • Work under adverse conditions requiring personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years working in a power plant operation or 3 years related experience.
  • Mechanical skills sufficient to perform varied mechanical tasks such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections.
  • Knowledge and experience with the operation of a steam generating power plant.
  • A valid Oregon Driver's License is required.
  • Experience with water treatment and water treatment testing is a plus.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and be a self-starter.
  • Strong and positive communication skills in both verbal and written forms.
  • Safety-minded and able to multi-task.
