About The Position

Background check and US Citizenship are requirements of this position. Position is a 12 month opportunity. TMMG is seeking an experienced Assistant Port Engineer to support Dominion Energy’s Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) Charybdis during its pre-operational and transition-to-service period. The Assistant Port Engineer will play a key role in vessel readiness, maintenance oversight, and coordination between shipyard, OEM representatives, and vessel engineering teams. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to one of the most advanced U.S.-built offshore wind turbine installation vessels, supporting the next generation of clean energy infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ship maintenance, repair, or port engineering support.
  • Hands-on experience working within shipyards, with OEM vendors, or supporting vessel new construction and repair projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary ship systems.
  • Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards, inspections, and class survey processes.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder maritime environment.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and tight project timelines.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical, field-based solutions.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems (SMS), risk assessments, and safe work practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project) and technical data tracking tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with customers, contractors, and shipboard teams.
  • Self-motivated and capable of performing effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, heavy-lift cranes, or offshore construction vessels.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance software and digital work management tools.
  • Prior involvement in vessel commissioning, dock trials, or sea trials.
  • Understanding of offshore wind farm construction operations or marine renewable energy projects.
  • Strong technical writing skills for work package development and test documentation.
  • U.S. Coast Guard, Navy, or commercial shipyard background preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, system diagrams, and OEM technical manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repair Coordination: - Plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance, repair, and inspection activities for vessel systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Port Engineer, shipyard teams, and OEM representatives to ensure work scopes are clearly defined, executed safely, and meet all quality and technical standards
  • Work Package Management - Assist in developing, tracking, and maintaining work packages, job orders, and maintenance logs.
  • Support project controls by maintaining accurate scheduling, cost tracking, and readiness reporting.
  • Verify contractor deliverables and closeout documentation prior to acceptance.
  • Technical Liaison - Serve as the on-site technical interface between shipboard crew, shipyard personnel, OEM service reps, and engineering management.
  • Facilitate communication and resolution of mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues, and provide timely technical updates to leadership.
  • Equipment Monitoring - Support ongoing monitoring of propulsion, electrical distribution, hydraulic, HVAC, and auxiliary systems.
  • Document performance data, manage spare parts inventory, and track warranty claims. Identify and recommend corrective actions or system improvements based on equipment trends.
  • Operational Support - Assist in the planning and execution of vessel mobilization, dockside testing, and sea trials.
  • Coordinate engineering readiness during commissioning, power-up sequences, and system integration milestones.
  • Support on-site troubleshooting and technical documentation during trials.
