About The Position

Overview Coordinate with Port Engineers to assist with scheduling, and performing vessel repair & maintenance on tugs and barges. Work with Port Engineers and Purchasing for approval on purchasing of parts, repair services and supplies. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures and report findings to Port Engineers. Assist with keeping tugs and barges in compliance with all regulatory agencies. Assist with keeping accurate records of all maintenance performed using company software program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of sailing experience on tugs, tankers, oil barges or equivalent. Three to Five years preferred.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the maritime industry preferred.
  • Maritime Academy Graduate preferred.
  • US Coast Guard Engineering license strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of oil transportation and marine industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of tugs and barge maintenance systems and equipment preferred.
  • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery.
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge operations, ship operations, and terminal/refinery operations.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Suite and basic office equipment.
  • Valid State drivers' license.
  • Valid TWIC or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • First Aid/CPR training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule maintenance of tugs and barges based on communications with Port Engineer.
  • Communicate with Port Engineer to establish priorities and availability of personnel, equipment, and resources.
  • Keep records of maintenance performed and ensure vessel are properly recording maintenance.
  • Work with Port Engineer on part procurement and services for repair and maintenance projects.
  • Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist Port Engineer to compile and prioritize worklists for each vessel for both routine and major maintenance (dry dock periods).
  • Communicate clearly with Port Engineer on all work being performed on the vessel and notify immediately if any issues arise that may affect vessel operations.
  • Work with Port Engineers on special projects to improved work flow and/or engineering processes.
  • Manage oil analysis program.
  • Perform emergency repairs on vessels as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Port Engineer.
