About The Position

The Assistant Pool Manager position is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited role that involves assisting with the general operation, maintenance, and activities of the community swimming pool. The role includes supervising and providing instruction in swimming, diving, special swim classes, and lifesaving classes. The Assistant Pool Manager will organize and coordinate various meetings and programs, assist in developing and implementing activities for the aquatic staff, and plan and develop training plans for subordinate staff. Additional responsibilities include preparing reports, assisting in opening and closing duties, and performing related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Experience equivalent to one year as a Lifeguard Instructor.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction Certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe operation of a community swimming pool by overseeing the enforcement of established rules, regulations, and standards of safety.
  • Monitors pool program activities such as swimming lessons, swim meets, and various other aquatics programs.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling, assigning and supervising the work of subordinate staff in the operation of the facility.
  • Trains subordinates for staff development purposes and to ensure that all training and license requirements are met and are current.
  • Enforces and explains rules and regulations to patrons.
  • Develops lesson plans for swimming recreation programs and performs related duties in the planning and implementation of various programs.
  • Teaches classes, such as swimming lessons, in the absence of appropriate subordinate personnel.
  • Ensures that the facility and its supplies are maintained at optimum levels.
  • Recommends necessary equipment and supplies for the safe operation of the pool.
  • Performs lifeguarding duties, participates in enforcement of safety rules, rescues swimmers in distress, and administers CPR and/or first aid as needed.
  • Performs pool maintenance tasks, such as testing the chlorine and pH levels of the pool water and adding chemicals to bring the level up to state and local health department requirements.
  • Writes reports and keeps a record of daily pool activities including a log of trainings, rescues, and emergencies.
  • May drive on City business depending on the needs of the position.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe efficient manner.
  • Organizes and coordinates a variety of aquatic programs, activities, events and competitions.
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays, as assigned.
  • Maintains up-to-date records and prepares related reports as required.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
