About The Position

The Assistant Plant Manager at Ford Motor Company is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing plant operations and culture, ensuring alignment with Ford's core values of Excellence, Focus, and Collaboration. This position acts as the COO of the plant, leading a team of manufacturing leaders and managing all personnel while driving operational improvements and fostering a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an engineering or technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibilities and experience in operations leadership.
  • Extensive experience in high-volume, complex manufacturing environments.
  • Expertise in lean, kaizen, and TPS methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of managing a Profit and Loss statement with strong financial acumen.
  • Experience leading a manufacturing function and overseeing 50+ hourly employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean / Six Sigma certification or equivalent experience applying lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience partnering with the union during negotiations or contract renewals.
  • Demonstrated track record of building trust and rapport with employees and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Indirectly lead a team of manufacturing leaders and oversee all plant personnel.
  • Take full accountability for plant operations and culture.
  • Leverage data and insights to drive lean improvements that meet cost and quality targets.
  • Collaborate with Area Managers, Process Coaches, and Hourly Employees to enhance operational performance.
  • Implement the Ford Production System aligned with lean principles and behaviors.
  • Manage costs and resources responsibly to improve plant performance.
  • Establish and operationalize a local vision and mission through clear goal-setting and communication.
  • Lead transformation and change management efforts to enhance competitiveness.
