We are seeking a motivated Assistant Pipefitter with backhoe and/or directional drilling experience to join our team in Sacramento, CA to support pipeline construction and maintenance projects. This hands-on role involves assembling, installing, modifying, and repairing pipe systems that transport water, steam, air, and other liquids or gases. Responsibilities may include operating a variety of hand and power tools, preparing and cleaning job sites, digging trenches, setting supports, and assisting skilled tradespeople as needed. You will meet at the yard in Sacramento located at 1225 Grace Ave, 95834 and travel throughout the area

Requirements

  • Prior experience in construction operating a backhoe and/or bore/drill machine
  • Ability to prep and clean job sites, dig trenches or pits, backfill, and level ground to grade
  • Capable of safely controlling traffic in and around work zones
  • Experience with potholing to expose underground utilities
  • Basic knowledge of underground piping systems (storm, sanitary, or water) installation
  • Ability to assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using various materials (e.g., couplings, clamps, cement, solder, etc.)
  • Skilled in measuring, marking, and locating pipe installations using rulers, levels, or similar tools
  • Ability to cut, thread, and shape pipes using saws, torches, pipe threaders, and benders
  • Comfortable operating hand tools, jackhammers, air compressors, and vacuums
  • Able to lift, carry, and transport tools and materials safely
  • Experience and ability to use basic hand tools, jackhammers and jumping jacks
  • Able to bend, lift, kneel and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to withstand exposure to heat, cold and rain; chemicals and fumes; dust from roads and break up of concrete; cars on roads
  • Able to travel to various job sites within 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
  • Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver’s license is required if the role involves driving; Class A CDL preferred; N endorsement required; airbrakes & manual preferred
  • Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)

Responsibilities

  • Operates directional drill for installation of water laterals
  • Performs daily inspections, cleaning and routine maintenance on boring machinery
  • Coordinate with locator to track the drill head
  • Adheres to safety protocols, locates existing underground utilities and implements traffic control measures
  • Mixes and maintains appropriate drilling fluids for soil conditions
  • Reviews bore profiles, blueprints and utility maps and prepares job sites. Including setting up the drill and grounding equipment
  • Prep and clean job sites
  • Dig pits and/or for trenches, backfill, compact and level to grade
  • Control traffic in and around work zones
  • Pothole to expose utilities
  • Install underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering blaze
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels
  • Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe treaders or pipe benders
  • Operate hand tools, jackhammers, air compressors and vacuums
  • Load, transport and unload tools and materials
  • Perform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting and balance
  • Complete pre-trip and driver logs when applicable
  • Drive Company vehicles responsibly and safely
  • Loading, properly strapping & hauling heavy equipment as well as towing a vac, dumping & cleaning the vac
  • Other duties as assigned
